国際競争力

スイスに本部を置く「世界経済フォーラム」が、毎年、国、地域ごとに企業活動、医療、
教育、インフラといったさまざまな観点から調査を実施し、国際的な競争力を評価する
「国際競争力調査報告書」が今日30日に公表されました。

対象となった140の国と地域のうち、トップはスイス。
日本の総合評価は、前年同様6位、シンガポールは過去5年連続の2位でした。

The world Economic Forum published The Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016,
a look at the competitiveness of 140 economies on 30 September.

Switzerland ranks number 1, followed by Singapore, same as last 5 years.  Japan positioned at 6th.

文化遺産

Furen International Schoolはシンガポール北部SembawangのAdmiral Hillに、
1939年にイギリス海軍本部として建設された旧Admiralty Houseに居を構えています。

シンガポールは長くイギリスから植民地支配を受けており、島内にはその歴史を垣間みることができる建造物も数多く残っています。

旧Admiralty Houseもその一つ。

National Heritage Boardからも文化遺産保護指定を受けています。

今年建国50年のシンガポール。

斬新なデザインの建物やハイテクを駆使した街づくりも見所ですが、
たまには各地にある建国前の歴史の片鱗を辿ってみるのも一興です。


The campus on Furen International School is situated atop Admiral Hill.
The school grounds consist of 6 blocks of which one of them is a national monument,
the Old Admiralty House.  The old colonial house with its distinctive red tiles
and white columns was built back in 1039 and was originally the British Naval HQ
by the Royal Navy Officers until the 1970s.

Singapore marks 50th anniversary this year and often featured by urban cutting edge
design structures and high-tech infrastructures.
It's also nice attraction to feel the history what was like before by visiting national heritage sites
located island-wide.

QSランキング

QSランキングとは、イギリスの大学評価機関Quacquarelli Symondsが発表している世界の大学ランキングです。

今年は9月15日に公表され、総合分野でNational University of Singapore (NUS)が
去年の22位から12位、Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU)が
昨年39位から13位へ大躍進し、話題になりました。

評価指標は各国学者の評価、雇用者の評価、学生一人当たりの教員比率、
教員一人当たりの論文引用数、外国人教員の比率、留学生比率と多岐にわたります。

ちなみに、日本勢。東大39位、京大38位でした。

シンガポールは2015QS Best Student Citiesでも15位に選ばれています。

若干物価の高さが足を引っ張っているようですが．．．

金融、貿易、交通、情報など、あらゆる分野のハブを目指し、
実現しているシンガポール。
教育のハブも大切な政策の一つです。

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) 
have risen their position among the worldwide universities, according to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings for 2015/2016 released on 15 Sep. 

NUS came in 12th position and NTU jumped to 13th position from 22nd and 39th respectively.  
As for Universities in Japan, Tokyo University is 39th and Kyoto University positions themselves at 38th.  

Singapore is also chosen as 15th in 2015 QS Best Student Cities.  Possible to go higher 
but living expenses drag their legs…

Being Education Hub is no doubt one of the important piece of Singapore Hub Strategy as well as Finance, Infrastructure, Trading, Transportation...

引き続きヘイズが猛威を振るっています。

9月24日13時現在、3hr PSIは260、1hr PM2.5の値は146-263μg/㎥。

残念ながら、この状況は11月まで続く見込みとのこと。

FISの周りにも、頭痛や喉の痛みなど体調を崩されている方が増えています。

皆様外出の際は是非マスク着用で。

Hazy weather continues.
As of 13:00pm, 24 September, 3hr PSI is 260, 1hr PM2.5 is 146-263μg/㎥.

Unfortunately, the situation seems to last till November.

Haze started to affect health - headache, throat irritation around FIS.
Please wear mask and avoid outdoor activities where you can.  Take care.

変わり種月餅

こんにちは。FISです。
引き続き、今日も月餅の話題を。

先日、お隣マレーシアジョホールバルから来た友人に頂いた月餅です。
その名もShanghai Mooncake。
コッペパン型の、シンガポールではあまり見かけないタイプの月餅。

それぞれ、ロータス餡、パンダン味、小豆味。
右端の３つ穴は黄身有無の区別のためらしいです。
さくさくビスケットのガワが◎。

This is the mooncake given by a friend from JB, Malaysia.  It`s called Shanghai Mooncake.
Unique shape and hardly find similar ones in Singapore.

It has lotus, pandan, red bean flavour.  Buttery flavour biscuit does good job.

オススメ月餅2015

常夏のシンガポールでは、年中行事が季節を感じる大切な役割を果たします。

９月の行事はMooncake Festival。欠かせないお菓子といえば月餅。
ベイクドタイプ、スノースキンタイプ、サクサクのTeochewタイプ、
アイスケーキタイプなどなど色々ありますが、今年のFISのイチオシはこちら。

中華レストランHua Ting@オーチャードホテルのSG50スノースキン月餅！
マーライオンの型押しがステキです。
中身は小豆と緑豆のダブル餡に金箔とポッピングキャンディーを練り込んだもの。
見た目も食感も楽しめます。甘さ控えめなのも◎。

今年の十五夜は9月27日。
ここ数週間ヘイズでモクモクのシンガポールですが、
きれいな満月が見られるといいですね。


Mid Autumn Festival has come!  One of FIS`s favourite is the snow skin moon cake
from Hua Ting@ Orchard Hotel.

SG50 mooncake is designed with national colour - red & white and Merlion.
The filling is red bean paste and salted green bean paste with gold foil with sprinkled
with popping candies.   Cute to look and fun to eat.

Full moon this year is on 27 September.  Hope to see beautiful full moon despite hazy weather…
